Barn door headers.
In order to install your barn door securely you would need to attach the barn door track to those studs.
A backer board beneath the track will create the one inch gap you need.

Without the addition of this header board the door track would only have hit something called a header inside the wall which is basically two 2x4s stacked on top of each other in a couple of places over the doorway.
A 3 foot door requires 6 feet of track.
Which is great if you re only ever going to have your door closed.
You may also need to install a backer board for the metal track since a barn door requires one inch of space between it and the wall.
Once the header is installed to the drywall the track can be firmly added to the header.
